Happy 50th Birthday, Phife Dawg! Fans Salute the Legend

The world still misses and forever celebrates Phife. The late Malik Taylor would have been celebrating his 50th birthday on November 20, 2020; and Hip-Hop fans made sure to salute the legendary rapper known as Phife Dawg on his special day.

Phife died in 2016 at the age of 45 and was known as the rambunctious everyman of A Tribe Called Quest. The "Trini Gladiator" teamed with Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi in that beloved group, which carved a remarkable legacy over the course of six albums.

Phife's mother, poet Cheryl Boyce-Taylor, is prepping a book dedicated to her son for release early next year. In an interview with HipHopDX, Boyce-Taylor shared thoughts of her son on his birthday.

“He’s my guardian angel, he’s my friend, he is always there. I didn’t know that this was possible, but he’s always in my life. Sometimes, I will dream about him. Other times — I have the silliest little thing. I didn’t put it in the book, but his birthday is 11/20. And sometimes I’ll just be sitting there, thinking about him and I look up and the clock says 11:20. And I say, ‘Hi Malik [laughs]."

Check out some of the birthday shout-outs to the Five-Foot Assassin.
