J. Cole's new album The Off-Season just dropped (May 14) and fans are already buzzing over the latest offering from the North Carolina-bred rap star. One track that has been garnering attention is "Let Go My Hand," and it's stirring up old rumors regarding Cole and Bad Boy impresario Sean "Diddy" Combs.
On the song, Cole revisits moments in his career, including an infamous supposed fight that occurred between he and Diddy back in 2013.
Cole raps:
“But sometimes a nigga pulled my card, tryna expose me for a fraud/And with my reputation at stake, I was scufflin’ just to save face. Couple wins, couple losses/Some broken up too quick to call it/My last scrap was with Puff Daddy, who would’ve thought it?/I bought that nigga album in seventh grade and played it so much/You would’ve thought my favorite rapper was Puff/Back then I ain’t know shit, now I know too much.”
If you didn't know, eight years ago at an afterparty for the 2013 MTV VMAs, rumors persisted that Cole and Diddy fought at The Dream Hotel in New York City. It's never been substantiated and stories differ on what sparked the supposed altercation; some saying Diddy took exception to Cole allegedly making advances on singer Cassie, Combs' girlfriend at the time; and others saying Cole was defending Kendrick Lamar after Puff apparently tried to disrespect K. Dot for Lamar's provocative track "Control."
Cole and Diddy denied the reports at the time.
