Hip-hop pioneer and icon Big Daddy Kane links with North Carolina emcee J. Cole to give him his flowers and declares the prolific rapper as his “favorite MC out.”
The legendary Brooklyn rapper is one of hip-hop’s most influential acts lyrically and stylistically. Many credit Kane as their favorite rapper, including Jay-Z, Biggie, and Eminem, dubbing Kane as “your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper.”
The rap legend took a minute to acknowledge who he thinks is this era’s best emcee. Kane connected with J. Cole as he will highlight the rapper for his upcoming Netflix documentary Paragraphs I Manifest, the film will focus on the art of rap and feature some of the game’s most polarizing artists.
On Tuesday (September 7), Big Daddy Kane shared a video to his Instagram followers announcing Cole as a star in the upcoming film, as well as giving him a shoutout as today’s best emcee.
"A lot of people are coming to people like us now and giving us our flowers while we still here," says Kane, as he stands next to Cole. "But listen, damn that. I wanna give this young brother right here his flowers. On the real. I want this brother right here to know that he is my favorite MC out right now. This is the brother right here that makes me feel like hip-hop is still alive and here to say when I listen to this here brother spit and I listen to his music."
Humbled, J. Cole appreciates Kane’s kind words with a “Love, bro. Thank you, man,” he smiles. “Legendary shit.”
What a legendary moment, bridging the gap between two eras. Two legends, Big Daddy Kane and J. Cole.
