There has been a lot of speculation about some potential new music from west coast legend Dr. Dre for the past month. After linking up with Grandmaster Flash and Aftermath affiliate Dem Jointz last week, there have been rumors that his long-awaited Detox is finally coming to fruition.
Dem Jointz took to his Instagram account to post a photo of him and other Aftermath and Dr. Dre affiliates working in the studio. The photo caused a frenzy amongst hip-hop fans when the producer dropped the hashtag “#detox2021” in the photo’s caption. Dre has been working on the mythical album for over a decade; Kanye’s Donda couldn’t hold a candle to the hype of this project.
On Monday (August 10), Diamond D shared an Instagram photo of himself and Dre posted up in the studio, sharing with his followers that he just heard 2 hours’ worth of new music from the GOAT himself. “@drdre played about 2hrs of straight unreleased heat rocks for me and @xzibit today,” he wrote in the caption. “#ondeck shouts out to @focus3dots.”
Dre also played some music for hi-hoppioneer Grandmaster Flash earlier this month. On August 1, DJ pioneer shared a photo of himself and Dre following the Nile Rodgers’ DiscOasis event. “He takes me down to the STUDIO. He played me a project that will change the game!! Totally incredible; we top off the day for 2hrs talkin about Music, Family Health, and Life thanks for the Invite Dr. Dre.” the pioneer posted on the official Furious 5 Instagram account.
Fans will have to keep their eyes peeled for an official announcement for Dr. Dre’s upcoming album. Dre’s last studio album, Compton, was met with wide critical acclaim, with features from Anderson Paak, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, and Ice Cube.
