20 years ago, America was forever changed.
A sense of security was forever shattered, trust would be obliterated and questions still remain: the tragedy of September 11, 2001 has lived and will continue to live in the hearts and minds of all who witnessed it. The entire country watched as two planes flew into the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center. Another plane would crash into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and another would be downed nearby.
In total, almost 3,000 people lost their lives that day.
Across social media, artists, commentators and fans paid tribute to the lives lost on that day.
On 9/11, 2001, I woke up in Syracuse, New York because I had spoken at Syracuse University day before. Was on phone with my friend April Silver. She told me to turn tv on. Just as I did second plane went into second Twin Tower. I wrote this poem, #September11th two months later. pic.twitter.com/cLZ8NJWhyh
