Common returns with the smooth and groovy new track, “Imagine,” featuring vocals from R&B artist PJ.
The single samples Rene & Angela’s 1981 hit, “Imaginary Playmates,” produced by Karriem Riggins, the track has a steady groove and a beautiful hook sung by featured artist PJ as Common raps a verse encouraging listeners to dream big and “Imagine,” no matter the circumstances.
When asked about the inspiration behind the new song, Common explains that he wrote it this past year, when It seemed like the world would never go back to normal. Coming out of Covid-19, I think we can all agree the world needed some good ol’ Common, as he brings his signature laid back positive energy on the new track.
“I wrote ‘Imagine’ at a time when we were all going through a lot,” he said in an interview with Complex. “But something kept telling me to focus on the good things I wanted to see in the world. For me, music is one of the things that gives me hope and happiness throughout these times, whether I am creating or listening to it”.
