"There's only one year left!!!"
That foreboding warning from Busta Rhymes' 1998 album Extinction Level Event: The Final World Front heralded the then-coming Y2K and New World Order. Bussa Buss's prophetic approach wasn't entirely right (wasn't entirely wrong, either -- just maybe 20 years or so early). But Busta is back, with a forthcoming album, his first in eight years.
Comedy icon Chris Rock serves as the herald for the upcoming Extinction Level Event 2: The Wrath of God. It's Busta's first album since 2012s Year Of the Dragon, and Rock let's you know what's coming simply by yelling it obnoxiously (and hilariously) over and over...
...and over...
...and over...
"You n***as can't fuck with the god Busta Rhymes!" Rock loudly croons repeatedly to the tune of Chopin's famed "Funeral March" (aka Piano Sonata, No. 2), adding more ad-libs and getting more over-the-top as he continues saluting his fellow native Brooklynite. There are no details about the album in the clip and Busta has been extremely tight-lipped about what he's got brewing.
"Extinction Level Event 2!" Rock closes. "Beeeeyaaaatch!"
Back in '98, E.L.E. was a huge hit for Busta, and he was in the midst of a crazy hot streak of albums and singles. Smashes like "Gimme Some More," "Tear Da Roof Off," and the Janet Jackson-assisted "What's It Gonna Be?" remain some of his most indelible classics; and he closed the 1990s as one of the biggest rappers in the game.
