New York City mayoral candidate Andrew Yang had a bit of a Hip-Hop faux pas recently during a yet-to-air appearance on the Showtime series Ziwe. Comedian/host Ziwe Fumudoh got to ask Yang about his rap preferences during a Zoom interview.
During the interview, Ziwe asked Yang if he is into Hip-Hop.
“I listened a lot to hip-hop during like the 1990s and 2000s,” Yang says, before listing Jay-Z and Nas as two of his favorites.
What’s your favorite Jay-Z song?” Ziwe asked cheerfully.
It led to a long pause from Yang, who suddenly questioned himself. "What is my favorite Jay-Z song?"
He finally started to rap a few lines from Jay-'s 2003 track, "Encore" -- the remix version featuring Linkin Park.
"It was the first one that came to mind," Yang said. "Then there's like his collaboration with Kanye, like, 'N-word in Paris.'"
"Those are the two songs that came to mind for me," Yang added. "But he has such a canon, you really can't go wrong." Ziwe is known for putting her interviewees on the spot, and the appearance has already gotten online buzz. The entire interview is set to air on Sunday night (May 23) at 11 p.m. EST on Showtime.
